The last hurrah of a myth before it all comes crashing down.
Box office must not mean anything to them anymore.

This imposition of new criteria may eventually result in changes that will compromise the quality of the product, but as for the awards currently being "for PC" and for "acknowledging and incorporating racism", I don't think so. I hear that complaint primarily from people who don't actually watch a lot of new movies. For instance, of the nine films nominated for Best Picture last year, only one, Parasite, had a largely non-White cast - understandable, since it took place in South Korea - and only one, Little Women, had a largely female cast. There was nothing discernably "PC" about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Joker, Ford vs. Ferrari, 1917 or the others. Of the twenty individuals nominated for acting awards, only one was Black (she lost) and the Best Supporting Actor Oscar went to Brad Pitt for playing a man who was supposed to have murdered his wife and got away with it. So where's the PC?

1917 was an excellent movie. I suppose you could make a case that the PC came from its portrayal of the horrors of war.
John Wayne's movies didn't exactly treat war as a walk in the park, either. War movies generally have not, going all the way back to the silent screen days. They just have and use better - i.e. more graphic and realistic - special effects these days, but that's just the filmmakers showing off, and because today's audiences are, for better or worse, ready for that level of violence and gore on the screen.

Social Justice Quotas Shouldn’t Determine Oscar’s Best Picture Nominees
The actors, actresses, crew, and staff of movies should be made up of men and women who get ahead by virtue of their talent, not group identity quotas.
