    • In fact, a greater percentage of Congressional Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than did Democrats. Support for the Act followed geographic, not party, lines.

To understand some of the reasons the South went from a largely Democratic region to a primarily Republican area today, just follow the decades of debate over racial issues in the United States.

The Republican party was originally founded in the mid-1800s to oppose immigration and the spread of slavery, says David Goldfield, whose new book on American politics, The Gifted Generation: When Government Was Good, comes out in November.
“The Republican party was strictly a sectional party, meaning that it just did not exist in the South,” he says. “The South couldn’t care less about immigration.” But it did care about preserving slavery.

She is a leader by default.

It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Wrong again. One of your compatriots can't prove his claim.

You're so uneducated on American history that you just defy imagination. The far right certainly needs you to show how inept they truly are.

He knows that. This is when he tells you that the parties flipped despite all the data being against that. Less than 10% of statewide and federal elected politicians have switched parties since 1900 and those that have predominately changed to versions of their own party. Flipping Democrat to Republican or vice versa was rare.
