    I went fishing today

I’m traveling south for the winter. I’m in Montana store I head south. I went went fly fishing today in blacktail creek. I caught nothing.

I Feel the closest to God at two times. When I’m working my garden and when I’m fishing.

I can’t explain it. I get the garden thing. I don’t get the fishing connection though.

You must be fishing with "crickets".

In both cases you are communing with nature (God). I think this is especially true when alone and you can let your "mind wander where it will go"

I would go fly fishing a lot when I lived in Tennessee (need different equipment in Florida). You will notice I said I went "fishing". I rarely went "catching"! Last time I went my guide told me I caught a record sized trout. They have never seen one that small taken from the creek!

I would enjoy myself with the physical elements of casting the rod, of watching the line go down the creek, of watching all the different insects that called the creek home. I never really cared if I caught anything or not (most of it is catch and release anyway)

I envy you those big rivers in Montana and Wyoming. I would need to have 50 flies on hand in Tennessee because I would lose 40 of them in the overhanging trees!

You might enjoy reading "A River Runs Through It" by Norman Maclean, also made into a movie directed by Robert Redford. It's about a preacher and his sons fly fishing in Montana. I didn't read the book and can't remember the movie, but it was popular back in the day. I think it was about communing with nature. Fly fishing was the venue.
