Trump is essentially a common sense third party guy. The neocons hate him for the reasons you spell out , especially this whole make less war business. His and Bush admins "accomplished" the same things: Spending and debt records , corporate welfare, constant war, intrusion into rights and grow government.
In 2016 the people wanted something different but thye were not quite ready to stray completely from the Donkephant. The repubs put up Trump the dems could not have found a more Washington insider type.
