Now, in my life, a liberal would get no further dates after revealing himself to be a liberal. But I understand everyone does not feel the way I do about that.

A dear (female) friend of mine is in a relationship with a conservative. I ask her how that works out. She said they don't discuss politics.

Is anyone here in a relationship with the other side and like to share how that works?

It has worked well for me in the past.

It is actually nice to be able to have real debate rather than simply agreeing on everything. Certainly more stimulating. Given that evidence suggests very few traits are specific to a political orientation, that is sort of irrelevant pseudoscience. There are very few political issues where I would expect someone to agree with me, and really it comes down to knowing when and where not to express certain things (social media is not the place, for example, for professional reasons). Also, there is really no reason this should be a source of conflict and discussions should never devolve into full-blown arguments, but that's probably based more on individual temperaments.

Sense of humor, kindness, respect and trust rate much higher on the scale of things I would expect in a partner.

I've dated a few lib / donk chix. I find that they tend to misinterpret news, or simply are ignorant of the truth. Many actually hold core center right views, but vote for donks because of nonsense they've heard, or believe a corrupt media. Generally, they aren't in tune with current events, and are just living life, and accepting the lies they're being told. I just walk away from the few real goose steppers.

I, too, have dated liberal men. Not after I found out they were liberal, as they tend to try to hide it around a real woman.

What gets me is deep down, they think they are as good as me. lol, imagine that.

Prior to marriage, I dated women who were on both sides of the political spectrum; to me it made no difference since I believe people have a right to their political viewpoints which I do respect and it made for good discussion.

I could never see myself being with a woman who was so narrow minded when it came to a relationship based on political persuasion it would be a determining factor in the relationship but that's just me and I realize that for some people it's fine.

When I got married my wife was a republican who came from a family of all republicans/conservatives (her mother was a member at one time of the John Birch Society), however she switched to independent as she got fed up with the repubs platform and didn't like the current president for a variety of reasons.

I have known a lot of women who only vote (D) because of the abortion issue- especially after getting a real job after college.
