If Trump announces Friday or Saturday. It will be 40 days. Same amount of time to confirm O'Conner and Stevens.

History supports Republicans filling the seat. Doing so would not be in any way inconsistent with Senate Republicans’ holding open the seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016. The reason is simple, and was explained by Mitch McConnell at the time. Historically, throughout American history, when their party controls the Senate, presidents get to fill Supreme Court vacancies at any time — even in a presidential election year, even in a lame-duck session after the election, even after defeat. .....snip~

But the flip-floppery of Biden, Graham, and many others doesn’t change the fact that there is a real and clear constitutional standard: The president has the constitutional authority to appoint a nominee when vacancy arises, and the Senate has the constitutional authority to confirm or block that nominee (with or without an up-or-down vote).
That’s it. That’s the constitutional rule governing all Supreme Court vacancies......snip~

Some congressional Democrats and their allies in the press are now threatening to pack the Supreme Court with additional justices if the president and a majority of the Senate now exercise authority explicitly granted to them by the Constitution and fill the current vacancy.

Filling a vacancy now is not the end of the Supreme Court, but packing the Court would be. At that point, there is only really a legislature and executive branch — control of the Court would change every time one party takes control of the House, Senate, and White House.

By packing the Supreme Court to prevent it from possibly chipping away at Roe v. Wade, congressional Democrats would guarantee that Republicans would pack the court at their next opportunity and certainly scrap Roe v. Wade. Is that something Democrats really want to do?.....snip~

This is also an issue that attract Neoconservatives back toward Trump. They are generally strong Christian faith and abortion is a big issue, so Trump being ready to have a conservative court is a major win for them.

Trumps major accomplishment has been putting Conservative Judges on the Courts. To have an opening on SCOTUS and failing to nominate. He would lose Conservatives and Repubs voters. Especially with all that the Demos have done these last 3 and half years. This is his chance to stick it to them. Letting them go.....he would be burnt toast.

As of last month on the 24th. He has a 10pt lead with Independents. He would lose some of them too.

I definitely think he should nominate. I just think this will ultimately work out for him either way.

He needs to nominate to get Joe to put out a list. That puts Joe's handlers in a bind. Not putting out a list will hurt. Putting out a moderate list will enrage his left base. Putting out a wacky left list will scare moderates to vote Trump. Putting out a list with both moderates and nuts will look shady and hurt Joe.
