    Well, I'll obviously defer to you on legal matters. But it seems to me that attorneys general should be there to uphold the law against criminality.

    That's another thing I've never understood. The burden of proof in a civil court is much less than a criminal court. Why? One either broke the law, or they didn't.

    District Attorneys focus on criminal laws. AGs have a broader mandate. Much of what AGs do is consumer protection stuff- that is usually all civil.

    The burden of proof in criminal trials is beyond a reasonable doubt which is really high. Like 99.9%. Because our Founders believed it was better to let guilty go free than to find an innocent person guilty. After all a guilty person loses his freedom or his life.

    Civil suits are proven by a preponderance of the evidence- 51%. Basically you prove to the fact finder that your version of the events are more likely true than the other side's version of the truth. You freedom or life is not at risk. Just your money and reputation.
