I liked my grandmother's corn bread with honey butter. Is that bad?

None of those things should be sugared.
Absolutely. Don't add sugar to any of those things you mentioned plus salsa.... never add sugar to salsa of any kind.

When I was in London I tried a beef and kidney pie, which is something I'd always seen or heard about in English books and movies, and I discovered why Americans do not, for the most part, eat kidney. It's has a very strong and quite disagreeable taste. I also tried blood sausage - never again. And one morning when I was in Wales I was given a big yellow fish (which turned out to be haddock) at my breakfast that smelled so bad I couldn't get close enough to taste it.
    Agree on beef kidney.

    Adding honey is great.
Adding sugar before baking the cornbread is bad.

Surstromming? I have never tried it. I've never even seen it on a store shelf. It is the basis for many a wager, however, some of which are on youtube.

For the cornbread? I'll see if my cousin has access to it. I don't have it, although I did copy a lot of her recipes before she died. She was awesome. She used to cook huge amounts of food for logging camps out west.
