I made a couple cool spears and have them in the man cave, but when I want hog meat I will use my 45/70 RemLin.
There is a very good reason mankind advanced beyond spears for hunting.
Very true. When in the National Guard we went to Ft. Polk a few times. They have a wild boar problem. Those things would charge and head but an M113.

Hunting with spears make a person...well...no more evolved than a caveman, I suppose.

This is my one and only post on this thread as I view the subject as being beneath me.
What part did you miss when it was asserted that the spear is actually quicker than a bow or even a bullet.

I would have loved to see one head butt an M113.

They are like little nasty tempered tanks with tusks.
Their skulls are very thick and I think they would have me on the ground in no time if all I had was a spear.

I have those little bastids right here in my back yard jungle.

Why do you think I built The Roost five feet off the ground.
You just don't sleep on the ground in the jungles around here and around Ft. Polk....ever.

If you are going to hunt boar with a spear you need a cross beam on it, like a hilt on a sword. A mad boar will run itself through on the spear to gore you.

A lot of hunting with a spear takes place from a stand. This guy does hunt on foot a lot. I think he carries a throwing spear (no lugs/wings) and a boar spear that has the lugs. Apparently he was a collegiate javelin thrower at Arizona.

    That would help.

He has a story where his college coach gave him the javellin he used while in school... So he attached a spear tip to it and got his first black bear with it.

When I was in Germany we went to Wildflicken for range time and there was a story floating around about a tanker in an M1A1 that saw a boar while on the range. Naturally that boar is no longer with us.

The solider was court martialed apparently and brought up on charges by the German Government.

That WAS unnecessary, messy and qualifies as dereliction of duty in my opinion.

During Desert Storm one of our 11Hs shot a TOW up a camels ass. The CO gave him an AAM.
