I consider offending both sides of the fence a good day. If I can do it with the same post, I consider it a bonus.
Political discussions in the current day, are not what they were a decade ago. Then it was an exchange of ideas, and possible expanded horizons for one or more.
Now, it's who can beat the other over the head harder, with the best insults, with zero growth on any side.
Continue to be you, it doesn't matter what others think.

I believe you are correct, in that they are mostly used - particularly in places like this board - as mere shorthand for "I do agree with this" or "I don't agree with that". Many if not most self-identified "liberals" and "conservatives" are ready at a moment's notice to trot out some justification for why their opinion on any given issue is the "liberal" or the "conservative" one - often in defiance of all logic and common sense. Whether it's in justifying a particular war, justifying an extra-Constitutional government intrusion of some sort, or justifying a legal stance that would appear to fly in the face of its defender's stated principles, the 'c' and 'l' words are very much like badges that many people have simply pinned on themselves or assigned to others, signifying exactly what that individual thinks they mean and nothing else.

I'm not offended at all.
What I see is someone that is in it for what he can get. Your discussions are focused around what you are going through. That does happen when you feel like you are not getting treated fairly. You don't see things through the eyes of people that go to work every day to save for their kids education but see the government taking it from them for people that just demand more.
I think you are a really smart kid and I think you can do more to be productive and that is the best thing for your future. Then you need less from others.
