Russia’s challenge now is to avoid collapse.

Russia’s challenge is not building a new generation of hypersonic missiles, nor investing in advanced technologies. Russia’s challenge now is to avoid collapse. The Russian budget is distributed among its constituent regions, which pay the teachers and doctors and firemen. But with the decline of energy prices, Russia’s budget declines, and as it declines, the regions contract. Russia, a Third World country, has few counters to low energy prices.

DJT ruins Russia in an arms race. Who does that remind you of?
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

Can't they just add it all to national debt like USA does? Or US says they aren't good for it? QE? Tax cuts? There must be something they can do. They are in good with UN and WHO right now. US not so much.

The USD is the major world reserve currency. Russia's currency isn't.

The US will collapse before Russia does........I think it's already began to . It's gonna take more than reserve currency status to save it in the coming years .

Incorrect. It is the dollars status as a world reserve currency that keeps the US from collapse.

Russia is screwed in the short term because of low oil prices, and in the long term they are dying off do to demographics (not enough population growth).

.......and the dollar's status is becoming more vulnerable with the passage of time . Regarding the Russian demographics problem , that narrative has been exaggerated through wishful thinking , rather than reality, ever since it was first used .

    Incorrect.

Russia Takes on Its Demographic Decline

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Russia's demographic decline will be a key concern for Moscow in the coming years as a result of emigration and low birth rates.
    • Contradictory data sets and the Kremlin's plans to attract migrants make it difficult to predict the exact extent and speed of Russia's demographic decline, but it will nevertheless impact the Russian economy and Moscow's ability to project power abroad.
    • Even if Russia succeeds in attracting significant numbers of migrants to mitigate its population decline, Moscow will face greater difficulties associated with managing domestic ethnic tensions and political instability.
