What do you say to a devout Christian

I would be fine with them. I understand what they mean and my Christian friends would accompany them with other words that would be comforting.

But if I had an atheist friend who said those things..........I would understand that she said that to cause hurt rather than to help. There would be no doubt in my mind.

Honestly if someone said those things to me, I would laugh. Not in derision, but in appreciation of the humor.
