Florida's Stand your Ground Law and NOW THIS!!

DeSantis proposes law to quash ‘disorderly assemblies’ in wake of Floyd, other protests

The law would include minimum six-month jail terms for anyone found guilty of throwing an object at law enforcement officers. It would also define as felonies blocking roadways, taking down monuments, or harassing people in public, among other things.

Seven or more people “involved in an assembly [that causes] damage to property or injury to other persons" would be committing a felony, and city and counties that try to defund the police would lose their state funding.

Another provision would shield drivers from liability “for injury and death caused if fleeing for safety from a mob.”

DeSantis, a Republican, said anyone arrested during protests would not be eligible for bail before their initial court hearing. There also would be efforts to identify any groups that are funding or organizing such protests.

If that homo Gillam had been elected Governor you'd be seeing widespread rioting, looting burning in Florida.

    Thank God for that.

Notice they stopped taking down federal statues after Trump promised them 10 years in jail.

    Yeah... that's unconstitutional.

If 200 people are gathered and peacefully protesting, and one person decides to be an $#@!, 200 people would be potentially charged. So... I guess freedom of assembly, free speech, and all that crap about due process or whatever doesn't apply anymore? Or does it just selectively apply...

Also? Assault on a police officer is already illegal, making that portion about throwing objects completely irrelevant. Destruction of public property also already exists. Has this guy ever actually read the criminal code for his state? Seems not.

It's nice DeSantis knows it is an election year. People are gullible enough to support this without understanding that none of it will stick for constitutional and fiscal reasons. But hey, it's Florida.

Actually the new law is going to require the 200 to stop the ass hat one from burning down a city.

The law makes assaulting an officer a felony which is a big deal. Also will allow Citizen's to defend those officers as you can use force to stop a felony in progress.

And YES you are right the people of FL likely don't want the Peaceful protestors to destroy their state

How is this any different from "murder by association" laws? If you're with someone who commits murder, you could be charged with murder by association--felony murder--even if you didn't do anything wrong. Joining in these protests is a willful act of defiance--an act that's creating a chaotic situation that can lead to criminal activity.

I see no difference. If you're in that crowd, you better stop the $#@! or you're also guilty to some extent.

Lol, it's never "one $#@!". How do you propose shutting down the violent protests?

That is when you are involved in a crime and one of the bad guys commits murder. Think bank robbery. You can be the get-away drive, not in the bank, but your nogoodnick friend kills the guard. You can be charged with murder.
