Trump's Debate Performance Was Abysmal

Undecided voters don't know what is false or true. Someone needs to explain it to them in a way they will understand and find persuasive. And Trump failed miserably to do that.

That isn't what Trump does in debates. He does that at his rallies.

Trump was a pure ass. But then, I don't think anyone in the US didn't already think he was an ass. As typical, Trump is imprecise with language. He sometimes uses the wrong word which muddles his positions.

Chris Wallace again brought up the debunked Charlottesville false narrative about Trump praising white nationalists. This is particularly egregious because this has been debunked by several reporters, even the "reporter" who started the false narrative- Jack Tapper of CNN. Jack has come out and admitted that they edited the tape to make it appear Trump was praising the white nationalists. The unedited clip makes it clear Trump was not talking about the white nationalists at all. And Wallace knows this.

Biden didn't say anything of substance. He said many things that were deceiving or not true. He seemed to be against a few things that he was for in the past such as the Green New Deal. That is going to hurt him with his hard left. Biden did slur his speech a few times, didn't finish some sentences, appeared tired and frail, but he didn't dementia out and stayed awake.

I think the "media" will call it for Joe and then say there is no reason for another debate. The Joe's handlers will agree.

The result, a loss for Trump.

Biden was also disrespectful and just repeated talking points.

CNN had their small group of independents and they were split and unchanged. They were not happy about that result.

Biden called Trump a clown twice. That was presidential.

Trump failed to handle Wallace too. Trump just failed on every front.

I don't know about that. He treated Wallace like his $#@!. The format style was stupid - the open debate portion, as I explained in the Debate thread last night.

Why is no one unsettled by the fact that for about one hour tonight out of the last 60 days or so, Biden actually put together sentences that were intelligible? He actually made sense. Was it drugs? Alzheimer's meds? Was it electronics? Simple fatigue from lack of endurance? Was he simply repeating what he heard in his earpiece when he was at his clearest? Toward the end of the debate he returned to his bumbling Biden self, so there was a beginning and an ending to his clarity, I thought. Am I the only one perplexed by this?

He stuck with simple talking points. He avoided actually answering hard questions. He did look weak and frail. He did slur his words and not finish some sentences- he just didn't dementia out to the extent we expected.

That seems to be a recognition of Trump's character. This has been well known since before the 2016 election.

More damaging than that, Trump failed to show he is a pillar of strength. He flew off the handle way too much and was out of control emotionally with his constant interruptions.

He should have let Biden speak, stood there in silence, but with an air of strength and confidence in his demeanor, and then answered the questions with logic, facts, and appeal to the voters with a quiet confidence he is the man to be at the helm for four more years.

He should have concentrated on the riots and how no Democrat yet has come out and spoke ill of AntiFa and BLM starting them and doing all the burning, killing, and looting. That is a topic he could have slipped in at any time in any of his answers.

How you appear on TV in a debate is very important. Ask Nixon.

Trump did not come off very good in this one, and Biden did not pass out after 20 minutes.

So, overall, I would give this one to Biden merely because of his 47 years of standing before a camera and not saying much.

Trump stood before the camera and was quite obnoxious in his behavior.

Another thought if there are going to be other debates:

Trump has to tone it down. He has to be more precise with language and explain these complicated issues to the undecided and to the moderate dems who are frightened of the leftward lurch in their party.

Biden has to stop with the name calling. That is what Trump does. Politicians don't look good doing that. Biden also has to worry about the dementia. He did better than expected (but came across as weak and frail), so his has to maintain and not deteriorate.

Besides, to judge his perfomance isoalted from Biden's doesn't mean much. I think Trump's aggressiveness threw Biden off. He made many vague generalities and seemed to forget the details to support them. He seemed flustered and angry toward the end.
