Post Knight Commission Survey of College Leaders Finds Openness to a Power 5 Breakaway

Knight Commission Survey of College Leaders Finds Openness to a Power 5 Breakaway.

Three-fourths of college athletics leaders believe the NCAA governing structure needs major, immediate reform, and more than half of Power 5 college administrators support breaking away from NCAA Division I to form a fourth division solely made up of the division’s top 65 schools.

That’s according to a sweeping survey of college leaders this summer conducted by the Knight Commission, a longstanding independent group that promotes reforms that support the educational mission of college sports. The commission’s survey, conducted from June 18 to July 14, produced a 180-page report that provides a window into the thinking of NCAA leadership.

They might as well just call College Football the semi-Pro league. With the on-going discussions of pay and allowing sponsors then it is getting more accurate.

The Deans love the money. Sports bring alumni donations, game and television revenues and notoriety.
What kid is thinking about going to Alabama if they did not have a football dynasty?
What would a degree from Alabama mean if not for the football program to most people across the USA?

The Deans hate that Football or Basketball is what they are known for.

I believe they already have the Patriot League (originally the Colonial League) started out as no scholarships but now has 15 "athletic merit" scholarships.

They needed the money. Don't kill the Goose that lays the Golden Eggs.
