I saw this and was amazed , there's nothing stooping black men and women white women Latinos Asians from becoming fighter pilots , and you sure a heck don't want to put people in a 120 million dollar plus f 22 that are not suitably mentally and physically the best of the best just because they are racially or sexually deserving due to a left wing nut job .
its a verty demanding job not just mentally and physically but emotionally and requires absolute dedication .
its not for everyone.
there is such a thing as some people are willing to step up and do what is needed and others are not.

there's no such thing as racially fair or sexually fair in war and death .
There is only the willing and skilled .

I probally didnt explain my feelings and point on this issue very well but I think most people get the point its not about skin color or sex and making it about that is the act of a moron.

One big reason for the so-called 'pay gap' between genders is the fact that women are less likely to seek high paying jobs. They are less likely to want them. edit - Less likely to need them.. It is not as simple as saying everything should be equal and if it isnt then racism or sexism must be to blame.

The Military is already top heavy (all the way to the top) with Affirmative Action, but Pilot training still has extremely High Standards for anybody including White Men. You don't put people into Billion Dollar Airplanes to make you have a "feel good" about Diversity.

I already worry about the damage we have done with AA if we ever get into another serious shooting war. By that I mean up close and personal, not remote controlled.

I knew one pilot that washed out of the program. Went up while having a sinus problem and blew his sinus out.

Yeah. With African American jet pilots - they are only about 16% of population. I don't know what Latinos are but not large percentage. Big thing though is that there would be far more white males growing up dreaming of being Tom Cruise from Top Gun - even without Top Gun. It makes complete sense that the majority of jet fighter pilots are white men.

I'm with @bulletbob and the only thing that matters is that they are the best. Qualified does not even cut it. They should be the best.

Well I wouldn't put it that way because it implies that white males are the best/most suited.

Another thing I would add is that I would bet that at least a percentage of note have father's that were pilots. And or went to a military school. So they were actually surrounded by this thing growing up. I know a guy that wanted to be a jet pilot - he didn't make it and ended up being a mechanic in the air force. His father was not a jet pilot in air force but he did own a plane and had pilot license. Its not uncommon for people to own light planes where I live. Anyway family background would be a factor here too but not in a bad way. Its like in early Rome it would have been a bit silly for a pleb to be cavalry because they would have come from a family that didn't own a horse. Where as a patrician would have grown up with them and been familiar with them.

I do not think that white males are more suited - I think that they are more likely though.

Edit - Reason this affirmative action stuff has the legs it does is because a good percentage if arguments against have at least a racist or sexist edge to them. And a lot of the time I think that's intentional and arguments are coming from saboteurs. There are a lot of racists and sexists though.. Arguments against don't need to be racist/sexist. Affirmative action is wrong.

Edit - But yes - affirmative action creates situation that results in people getting jobs that are not the best for them. I agree. That's why its wrong.
