Google Slapped With Sweeping Antitrust Case By DoJ

There is no doubt that Google exercises monopoly power and control over the Internet. The Department of Justice has finally decided to act, and several states have already decided to join the lawsuit. This opens the door to other anti-trust suits against other tech giants like Facebook and Twitter. ⁃ TN Editor

The Justice Department on Tuesday sued Google for antitrust violations, alleging that it abused its dominance in online search and advertising to stifle competition and harm consumers.

The lawsuit marks the government’s most significant act to protect competition since its groundbreaking case against Microsoft more than 20 years ago. It could be an opening salvo ahead of other major government antitrust actions, given ongoing investigations of major tech companies including Apple, Amazon and Facebook at both the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission.

“Google is the gateway to the internet and a search advertising behemoth,” U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jeff Rosen told reporters. “It has maintained its monopoly power through exclusionary practices that are harmful to competition.”

Antitrust cases in the technology industry have to move quickly, he said. Otherwise “we could lose the next wave of innovation.”

I have mentioned this before. I have recently read an article by a somewhat well know fiscal conservative who said he was anti- anti-trust laws -- until he saw Big Tech.

As biased as google search can be I have tried other search engines and they suck. There is no good alternative. Which is odd. Is it really so hard to make a search engine that works? Anyway - people can use duck duck go or something if they dont like google. Nobody is forcing people to use google.

They brought up the issue of Google being the default search engine in Android operating systems, however that's no different than Bing being the default search engine in MS operating systems. iPhone uses Safari (an Apple search engine). What's the difference? Changing the default is no big deal. As it happens, I prefer Google to Bing. Anyway, they all have to have at least one search engine to begin with - why does it matter if Google loads their own in Android systems? Generally antitrust involves buying up all of your competition through mergers or price fixing, dividing markets, or big rigging. Google hasn't bought out their competition and I'm not sure that offering companies a financial incentive to use their product fits the description of antitrust.

I wish them the best luck.

In USA 2020, most Conservatives and Independents are afraid to voice their opinions in public.

    Freedom has been lost.

This may sound strange. On Economic issues, Conservatives are turning toward more Liberal positions. Leftists are turning toward Unlimited Capitalism.

Perhaps Modern Conservatives are closest to 1960s Liberals
