    Energy Policies, Biden and Trump

I watched the second debate. Among other things, I was interested in what they had to say about their energy policies.

On the issue of fossil fuels:

    - Trump’s policy boils down to this:
    >ignore the negative effects of burning fossil fuels on the environment
    >rely heavily on fossil fuels for the duration
    >frack it, dig it, and drill baby drill it forever

    - Biden’s policy boils down to this:
    >acknowledge the negative effects of burning fossil fuels on the environment
    >rely on fossil fuels until we can gradually transition away from them
    >transition “fossil fuel” jobs to “renewable energy” jobs

During the explanation of his policy, Biden said that he would “transition away from the oil industry.” I saw the smug expression on Trump’s face when Biden said that. It was like he just struck gold. He then proceeded to TWIST Biden’s words into something that he did NOT say. He FALSELY accused Biden of saying that he is going to destroy the oil industry. And then Trump said, “Will you remember that, Texas? Will you remember that Pennsylvania? Oklahoma? Ohio?”

And then I said, “Oh no! Good move, Trump. Don-the-Con strikes again! I hope your con doesn’t work.” He tried to make Biden (who OBVIOUSLY has a MUCH broader, and a MUCH deeper, understanding of the complexities of the energy issue, than he does) look like a dangerous fool on that issue. And he managed boil-down Biden’s energy policy, a policy of SUBSTANCE and DETAILS, into ONE DECEPTIVE sound bite.

That’s what Trump is good at. He can look at substance and details that are COMPLETELY over his head, and he can somehow boil it down into a single deceptive sound bite. It’s a magical gift that he has.

But who is the REAL dangerous fool on the energy issue? Let’s look at a few facts:

    - According to the VAST MAJORITY of scientists AROUND THE WORLD, the burning of fossil fuels is causing SERIOUS man-made climate change. And they say that climate change could be an EXISTENTIAL THREAT to life as we know it.

Biden’s energy policy addresses climate change. Trump falsely claims that climate change is a Chinese hoax, and his policy COMPLETELY ignores it. Bottom line: If the scientists are right, then Trump is the dangerous fool on climate change.

    - One of the MANY things that Trump does not understand about our world is that fossil fuels are a VERY LIMITED resource. According to the scientists, this resource could be depleted in a little over 50 years. If these scientists are right, TODAY’s kids will see the DEPLETION of fossil fuels. This “Great Depletion” will be HORRIFIC, especially if we’re NOT prepared for it.

Biden’s energy policy addresses this depletion. Trump’s policy COMPLETELY ignores it. Bottom line: If the scientists are right, then Trump is the dangerous fool on depletion.

So, what will it be? Will it be four more years of a dangerous fool who has an aversion to science, and who is implementing energy policies that are leading us into DS? Or will that fool be replaced by a man who believes in science, and who will implement energy policies consistent with science?

Joe's idea of a transition is over the short term. And even other Dems now realize this. He hurt himself in the last debate.

By relying on fossil fuels while working to decrease our dependence on them don't you really mean Biden will as he has promised "Ban Fracking" , endangering the economy already having been hit hard by COVID policy? I agree with the idea of working to decrease fossil fuel usage but decreasing/ending foriegn oil dependence comes first.
But here's the kicker. The hard core Donkephant in general likes war , loves war as demonstrated by the Bushbama years. But trump has not only NOT started new war and helped broker ME peace deals but AND fracking decreases and could end our dependence on foriegn oil.

Without dependence upon ME oil war will be difficult to wage/ continue
Without war political influence seels for less and voters have time to take ahard look at incumbants and even those vile third parties.
Without banning fracking we can't get back to deppendence on foriegn oil.

    Democrats’ Energy Dilemma

The biggest challenge facing a putative first-term Joe Biden administration and the Democratic Party may lie with energy policy, where gentry and green wishful thinking confront the daily realities of millions of middle- and working-class Americans.
Democrats could choose a climate policy that allows for gradual change – forexample, transitioning from coal to natural gas – and consider the feasibility of smaller and safer nuclear plants, while keeping the productive economy afloat. But Biden, despite some wriggling about fracking on private land, just last week committed himself to the gradual eradication of the fossil fuel industry. His running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, is beloved by California’s extremist greens.

Already, in anticipation of a Democratic sweep, utilities are putting some natural gas projects on hold – threatening a powerful growth engine in places like Pennsylvania and Ohio. If Biden continues to embrace the basic thrust of the Green New Deal, if not its full-bore socialist program, the impact could be devastating for manufacturing areas that compete with China, which depend largely on natural gas, coal, and nuclear power to keep costs down. These state economies cannot fantasize, as some do in California, that the resulting social costs will be paid for by the wealthy digerati; lacking sufficient numbers of the rich and famous, these states will be hit hard, and fast.

If, as seems likely, victorious Democrats enact legislation broadly derived from the Green New Deal, major blowback – and economic disruption – seems inevitable. Biden and Harris have been almost comically inconsistent in their statements about fracking, but they’re certainly hostile to it: if they win the White House and pursue a ban, it would likely drive higher prices for energy, reduce national energy self-sufficiency, and cause massive job loss among a large number of Americans, particularly in key states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.

    The critical gentry-green alliance

Energy effects so many other things – our daily bills, whether an employer locates in our town, our already-frayed economic mobility – and is thus a far broader issue, in terms of its consequences, than, say, abortion or race reparations, which often appeal to limited, albeit passionate, constituencies. Energy policy is certain to fracture the Democrats along ideological, class, and geographic lines.

In the past, Democrats tried to appeal to workers and communities connected to the oil and gas industries.
