What does it mean that "God is a jealous god?" Why would God be jealous?






It appears to me that professing attribution of this trait to God strongly suggests that the Judaic God is but one of a pantheon (that everyone else seems to recognize, yes?), albeit the one who is their Master and so their one-and-only God, which is why I pose the question.

If true, then which god in the pantheon is it that Jews worship?

Alternatively, what is it I'm not getting here?

Not only this, but FYI, it was brought to my attention on another board by a Jewish poster that the Jewish God and the Christian God do not refer to the same diety.

Correct, nor is the Muslim god the same as the Christian God which is Christ or the LORD. The great I AM.

God talks about this in the Bible when they turned and worshiped other gods.

I don't judge. I try to understand people for what they see themselves as. I don't make claims only to mock those claims.
