    Sauteed old mushrooms.

Found a near full package of mushrooms in the frig this pm. A number of them were dry and shriveled up but they smelled okay. A little mold on one was green and healthy-enough looking.

Cooked them up on the stove in olive oil and Tastes Like Butter margarine, first choice of all world-class chefs. Seasoned with garlic salt. They were interesting -- almost crunchy to crispy crunchy. They had all turned black so I don't know exactly the state of done-ness.

They were good. I liked them a lot.

Anyone ever eaten crunchy mushrooms like this? It's a first for me.

I'm not a cook, but I know a few people here are cooks or even chefs maybe. The only reason I even dare bring this up is just in case I don't wake up in the morning.

You shouldn't eat anything with mold growing on it. Dried mushrooms are frequently used in soups and stews, although they are usually sliced before they are dried. They have a concentrated mushroom flavor which can add a richness to your dish. The only problem with using the ones that may dry up in your refrigerator is that they are rather difficult to clean.

Clean? What? They were black. I guess that saved a lot of work, huh?
