Atheist Group Shutdowns Kansas School “Operation Christmas Child” Participation

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, which advocates for atheists, agnostics, and non-theists, has persuaded a Kansas school district to discontinue their participation in Samaritan’s Purse’s ‘Operation Christmas Child‘ because of the program’s strong Christian beliefs.

According to The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s website, after a school’s staff member reached out to the atheistic watchdog organization, they filed a complaint with the school’s Superintendent Tony Helfrich.

The complaint stated that the staff member reported multiple “egregious constitutional violations” that have occurred at Liberty Middle School in Pratt, Kansas. The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s attorney, Christopher Line, cited that “Vice Principal Ron Hill has been using his position to promote and endorse his personal religious beliefs to students.”

It happened because many Atheists are part of the always offended activist crowd. They don't want separation as much as elimination or in the very least out of sight.

The Constitution does not prohibit religious display or plays. If the school board chose to terminate the play because somebody complained and said it was a violation of the Constitution, they are a bunch of cowards who should immediately be removed from any position of authority.

I am an atheist. I think the whole religion thing is superstition, BUT I also understand the importance of religion in the lives of many people and my feeling on it is if it brings strength, comfort and guidance in life and harms no one else, it is a good thing. I don't need to share in your beliefs to respect them.

These "activist" atheist groups need to just grow up and stop trying to force their will on others. At the same time, religious groups need to stop rolling over and start standing up for themselves. There is a lot of stupid on both sides.

The only question that really needs to be asked and answered here is whether the school FORCED participation in the play. If it did, that is problematic. If participation was voluntary, I don't see an issue here.

The article doesn't say, but I'm inclined to believe nobody was FORCED. Well...at least by the school. Not the parents might be a difference story....and that's between the parents and their kids.

Parents should be free to make such decisions for their minor children. Religious education falls into the rice bowl of the parents.

Rice bowl? I've never heard that term before...
