I know you're not supposed to do it and, its discouraged by Fish and Game (they'll fine you, actually) but I always put out food for the squirrels, we have the tufted ear squirrels in New Mexico, it got to where they'd look at the house, the back door, waiting.

They'd get in the bird feeders, they figured out how to open the feeders that held the suet and, the whole cake would disappear.

They especially loved almonds and, the Blue Jay's would fight the squirrels for them.

I think that he lives in a rural setting - he describes the raccoons as coming from the woods.

It's always tempting to do what he's doing, and he's not caging them, so it's safer than if he did.

Females can get nasty when they're pregnant, or with young. Raccoons are a quite interesting, but I just trap them and relocate them when they come around. They can do a lot of damage to homes as they sneak their way into a structure for the winter.

I wouldn't recommend it. Raccoons also tend to contract rabies in their travels. They're hard to avoid, as they really are cute.

I found the raccoons to be highly sociable, pleasant to be around, and smart. The average life expectancy for a raccoon in Alabama is less than two years. We had some come daily for almost six years. I think the risks to the raccoons is minimal compared to their life expectancy. We fed "our" raccoons medium quality dry cat food.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.
