    Genetic mapping indicates that homo sapiens almost became extinct about 70,000 years ago, and that advanced hominids had almost gone extinct at least twice before that - about 150,000 years ago and 1.2 million years ago. That science also points to a couple of present-day human populations who most probably represent what the survivors of that last near-extinction looked like. The Sans Bushmen are the best known.

    Their genetics are surely original: I've heard of them before, but they have evolved according to their climate over the mellennia.

    There is a tribe of ancient Celts in far western China that buried their people in plaid garments (I wish I could remember their name). Their paternal DNA is pure Celtic, their maternal DNA is Asian, thus even as isolated and almost pure as their society is, they have developed soft Chinese features. So as I say, what he original features of the first modern humans must have been is something I'd love to know. They very well could be closer to a Native American look...
