Well, it has started again.
Yet another panic buying spree. This time it is LARGE RIFLE PRIMERS. Gone...hard to find any place with them in stock.
************************************************** **************************
NOW LET ME EXPLAIN what I am talking about. I will keep this in simple terms and not get too technical so all can understand.
A rifle cartridge has four parts. The case, the gun powder inside it, the bullet that sits on top of it all, and the PRIMER that fires it all up ...ignites the powder....and sends the bullet out the barrel.
On some cartridge cases there is only one hole dead center in the middle and bottom of the case. The primer fire goes through that hole and ignites the powder.
Once the cartridge is fired and the empty casing has tinkled to the ground, it is possible to pick up that case, and with some equipment, you can punch out the old spent primer and put a new one in its place. Once that is done, you can recharge the case with new powder, put a new bullet on top and shoot it all over again.
This process is called RELOADING.
************************************************** ***************
The problem right now is the scarcity of primers for full powered rifles. The AR-15 is not a full powered rifle, but the other military caliber, the 7.62 NATO is.
People have lots of empty casings, plenty of gun powder, and lots and lots of bullets to put on top, but almost ZERO primers.
I used up the 400 I had and can not find any more no matter where I look. On-line or locally.
************************************************** *******
Large rifle PRIMERS seem to have dried up.
Is something in the works? Should I batten down the hatches and get out my tin foil hat?
There can only be one reason for this lack of large rifle primers. People are reloading them like mad.
Any thoughts?
