The man obviously hates someone -- not the far right, necessarily -- maybe a father or uncle who abused him and this is his childish way of striking back. You can almost feel the raw anger in his words. He doesn't miss a chance to insult and name calling.
That said, he does have a point about evangelical Christians looking for signs of the End Times, and Israel figures into that scenario. It's nothing new, however, as a child I had a friend who repeated the same things.
However, that has nothing to do with the fact that Israel is our staunchest strategic ally in the Middle East and that Israel typically produces more Nobel laureates in a single year than the rest of the Arab world put together.
This Schaeffer fellow is an embarrassment I suspect to most liberals because he's gone around the proverbial bend.
I used to be a bit angry at religion myself when I first lost mine, but over the years, I've come to understand that I can allow others to believe whatever they chose without feeling pressured or intimidated by their beliefs. I've also come to understand it from the ranks of some of the most religious folks we find our greatest military heroes. They fight for God and country, so it's a win/win situation for our nation.
Schaffer was once an evangelical himself, so if he claims they're unbalanced, he, by extension, is including himself in that designation.
