Only half tongue in cheek: Trump will move to Russia and Putin will set him up with a state of the art production studio and TV/radio station. From there, Trump will channel Tokyo Rose and Lord Haw Haw and keep his marching ant followers riled up.

When exactly has that ever been the case?

If you want to go back to the Stone Age, maybe that would apply, but in the last several centuries, economic interdependence has been the name of the game. There are several power players in the world economy, and if one falls, the others will pick up the slack.

If America collapsed today, all that would mean is that China would expand its influence a lot more. They would possibly even become the world policeman.

    Tighten up.
Usually, it was the "not my president" thing. So while many progressives didn't deny Trump was president, they engaged in a fantasy that somehow he wasn't president over them.

It doesn't really matter at this point, however. Biden will be president, but like most presidents, he will serve special interests, not the common man. That is how our government operates.

In the meantime, the masses will attack each other as the elites rob us blind.

We are headed for a long period, perhaps several centuries, of what I like to call "corporate feudalism." States will still exist, but will be toothless.
Depends on the regime. Singapore is very much nationalist, and the quality of life is high. The same is true for Japan. Some Western countries are managing it as well, like Poland.

The conceit of Western cultures, however, is that their focus on individualism has often shifted away from the concept of common interests. During WW2, America was very nationalist, and it helped us win the war. Few on the left would decry this, since Democrats largely held the reins then.

Nationalism can be genuine and functional, but it has to be well adapted to international trade. Countries like Singapore and Japan have basically perfected this, but it does help that they are both rather collectivist in orientation.

If you believe the mainstream media, that might seem to be the case. The reality is that Trump made the mask drop. Because he actively fought with the elites, it revealed the ugly underside of our system. Anyone paying attention should now realize that our government is only representative in theory. The public is only allowed to go so far out of line with what the elites want. Go further than that, and the system will be compromised to get the result they want.

Most of the time, elites buy the candidates of both parties, so choice is just an illusion. Each party has a different base to throw a few bones to, but ultimately, the same wars are fought overseas and the same pork is funded for special interests.

Elections are for show. It's much easier to control people who believe they are free.

"Leader of the free world" was always an arrogant title that didn't actually apply. Our foreign policy over the last 20 years would be more accurately described as "leader of destabilizing other countries."

Trump may have lacked the decorum of most world leaders, but he bombed less people than the last 2 presidents, even if you only count 1 term of either one.

    I'd say that's an improvement.
