It would have been hell of a "bad flu season," with ten to fifteen times the number of "flu" deaths flooding the hospital system.
Just because in your single case (younger? no other conditions?) or even among "a lot of people you know," they all came through OK, doesn't mean the entire country would have. And in fact, we didn't. There are 300,000+ more deaths this year than in a typical year, and the only significant difference between this year and past years is...COVID. It ain't rocket science.
For the record we're getting ours on the 16th. I can get one but I'm going to pass on it for now for others who need it more than me.
I might get one after that, I'm not entirely decided yet but leaning toward it if it's readily available.
