I knew it - it was suspicious that a guy dropped off the child at Goodwill. The mother of a 2-year-old who couldn't take care of her child would surrender the child to CPS or find someone else to take care of him/her. This guy was getting rid of the child.

Unless the mother was so strung out that she barely knew that she even had a child, or was an active danger to it. That's actually the scenario that I imagined when I read that it was a man who dropped the child off - that the man was somehow involved with the woman and was doing everyone a favor by getting it away from her.

Even then, if his motives were noble, he could have called CPS or reached out to one of her relatives to take the child.
