Thanks, at least inmates can have visitors. If I dont get results from the director of nursing and social services soon, I'm calling a lawyer.

It is VERY common right now (in the midst of covid) for no visitors to be allowed in skilled nursing facilities.
There really is no need to call a lawyer, unless there is something going on that is not clear from your post. Leaving AMA is not exactly rare, but the only thing I would be concerned about, by leaving AMA, is that some insurers won't cover the care provided when a patient DOES leave AMA, so that would be my primary concern on that front.
The DON really doesn't have the "power" to get your wife discharged, but she could contact the physician of the facility, explain the circumstances to him, and get a proper discharge order from that physician. That would solve the AMA problem altogether. Now, for the home health services at home, the facility physician is very likely NOT going to be giving, nor signing any orders from the home health agency. That physician would be her primary care doc, so whoever her PCP is should be contacted by you soon, and have the situation explained. The pcp could then be in charge of her home health care services, including giving you the referral FOR those services.

Good work. You sold the director on it. Just ask her what time you need to be there to pick her up.

Then don't say another word to the director until the moment you plan to leave to show up. It'll only lower your price and give the director more words to chew on against you.

I agree with recording all the phone calls if you can. Good luck with it all Kris and, apart from all the trouble, I hope you had a nice Christmas regardless.

Make sure you research the laws of your state before recording conversations. In some states you can do it without notice / permission of the other party. In some states you can't.
