First female Green Beret accidentally discharges firearm in her home

First female Green Beret accidentally discharges firearm in her home

    WTF? Not a good start.

Two sources within the Special Forces community have informed Connecting Vets that the first female Green Beret accidentally discharged a firearm in her home, and the incident is now being investigated by the Colorado Springs Police Department. The incident occurred on Dec. 12.

“Our command is engaged with local authorities regarding an incident involving one of our soldiers and an apparent accidental discharge of a firearm at an off-post residence in Colorado Springs," Maj. Dan Lessard, spokesperson for 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), told Connecting Vets.

"While the handgun was discharged inside an apartment, no injuries occurred. Because the incident occurred off-post, local authorities have jurisdiction," he said. "We will continue to coordinate with local authorities and closely monitor the civilian case as it moves towards resolution in municipal court."

The female Special Forces soldier has never been named publicly due to personal and operational security concerns.

She should have gone to a bowling alley and capped a few people, she'd be a lock for C&S College.

Accidental discharges of firearms are quite rare. Negligent discharges, on the other hand, occur far too frequently.

Okay you make a good point. I hadn't considered that.

First female Green Beret? Hell, she could have gunned down half of her platoon and would have been given a medal for marksmanship.

I remember back in the 80s when DoD decided they wanted a female to go through the Q course to get S qualified. This was before they screwed everything up by making Special Operations its own Career Management Field. SF qualification used to be just a skill identifier (S).

Anyway, they chose a female intelligence officer to go through the course. She did okay academically, but broke down physically. IMA, which ran SF Schools got a message from DoD saying she WOULD graduate. Phase 1 Committee went into the puzzle palace en masse and requested reassignment. They weren't going to play that game. Either she met course standards like everyone else or she failed. They were not going to compromise the integrity of the SFQC by averting their eyes and giving her a pass just so DoD could have their S qualified female. IMA backed them and she did not graduate.

I would like to see what went on behind the scenes in this case. Does anyone know what her MOS is? Is she assigned to an ODA or does she have an intel billet or what? I haven't followed this, so I have no idea.
