A US Capitol Police officer on duty during Wednesday's coup attempt by Trump supporters died by suicide on Saturday, his family has announced.

Howard Liebengood, a United States Capitol Police officer who responded to Wednesday's violent riots in Washington D.C., died by suicide, a family spokesman said Monday.

    He was 51 years old.

Liebengood had been assigned to the Senate Division and joined the department in 2005.

Barry Pollack, a lawyer for Liebengood's family, told BuzzFeed News the officer had been at the Capitol during the insurrection.

"His death is a tragedy that has deprived all of us a dedicated public servant," Pollack said.
"His family has suffered a devastating loss and asks that they be given space to grieve in private."

    According to CBS News
, several Capitol Police officers have threatened self-harm in the days following the riot.

Don't fall for the dishonest OP and the thread creator. And it is worse than dishonesty. It is deliberate. It is meant to divide. It is evil.

It is extremely unlikely that this single event would trigger a suicide. Single event triggers are something like a terminal cancer diagnosis or perhaps an unfaithful partner. Not a riot at your workplace.

Much more likely is decades of major depression, treated or untreated.

Heh. I love this. Remember the kid who killed himself because of the COVID lockdowns? What did you end up saying about him?

LoL, yep. I have to go back and check, but I don't think anything was ever said that it was "evil" or "meant to divide".

Or even that the kid was suffering from mental illness. It was “the liberals”.

We have several threads and posts about the harm caused by lockdowns.

Your analogy is extremely poor. An adult and long time police officer, is not in the same position as a child dealing with lockdowns.

To equate someone's need to exit their life with an event says only that they used the event as an 'final straw'. No reasonably sound minded individual would commit suicide, at least in America, over such an event.

Perhaps seppuku? I wouldn't think even that would be applicable in this situation.

Uh huh. And when it comes down to it you know $#@! all about this cop or his reasoning. You just deferred to your hackery in order to defend traitors to the Republic.
