Post Federal Housing Administration created On June 27, 1934

    Federal Housing Administration created.

On June 27, 1934, the National Housing Act created the Federal Housing Administration (now part of HUD), which put the power of the federal government behind home financing, helping to make home ownership a reality for tens of millions of Americans and powering the residential real estate industry.

Thumbs up President Lincoln signed first US federal income tax act

President Lincoln signed first US federal income tax act

On July 1, 1862, the Tax Act of 1862 was passed and signed by President Lincoln, establishing a 3% federal tax on income above $600 and a 5% tax on income above $10,000.Compliance with the act was poor, even though there were needs for the Civil War. After the war the act was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Review a brief history of the US income tax from the Library of Congress.

    Post Steam engine patented

    Steam engine patented

On July 2, 1698, the first steam engine was patented by Thomas Savery. However, the machine had only limited power. Thomas Newcomen in 1712 and James Watt in 1774 would later make the steam engine truly useful, revolutionizing travel.

Learn more about the Steam Engine from the University of Dayton.

Diesel locomotives, technically known as diesel-electrics, came into widespread use following development of Electro-Motive Corporation’s (later, General Motors' Electro-Motive Division) EA/EB design, first tested on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O) in 1937. ...The industry remained skeptical of the diesel for many years, relegating it to secondary status while steam remained the preferred choice for main line assignments. This changed after General Motors successfully demonstrated the diesel's viability during testing of its FT freight design in 1939.

I was just wondering when the shift from steam to EDM's occurred.........

    Post July 5, 1946 - Bikini introduced

    Bikini introduced

On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Réard unveils a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris. Parisian showgirl Micheline Bernardini modeled the new fashion, which Réard dubbed “bikini,” inspired by a news-making U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean earlier that week.
European women first began wearing two-piece bathing suits that consisted of a halter top and shorts in the 1930s, but only a sliver of the midriff was revealed and the navel was vigilantly covered. In the United States, the modest two-piece made its appearance during World War II, when wartime rationing of fabric saw the removal of the skirt panel and other superfluous material. Meanwhile, in Europe, fortified coastlines and Allied invasions curtailed beach life during the war, and swimsuit development, like everything else non-military, came to a standstill.
