    Impeaching and convicting a president

I heard an interesting observation on one of today's Sunday morning opinion shows:

If a person can be impeached and/or convicted after he has already left office--in Donald Trump's case, he has already been impeached; but not yet convicted--when he is merely a private citizen, what is to prevent our impeaching and convicting a person who is merely running for office (and also, therefore, just a private citizen)?

    The latter does sound absurd.

But it is really no more absurd than the former.

The conviction won’t happen. The political stunt is essentially over on Inauguration Day.

Why else would Pelosi appoint that complete Idiot Swalwell as a house manager. She knows that he will never be making the case for prosecution in front of the senate. He’d be more embarrassing to their cause than Schiff and Nadler were.
