Legalizing recreational marijuana leads to increased sales of ice cream, cookies and chips, according to a first-of-its-kind study establishing a causal relationship between legal cannabis and junk food consumption. “You think marijuana does no harm — that’s pretty much the consensus today,” said Georgia State University economist Alberto Chong in an interview with The Academic Times. “But there are unintended consequences, and one of them is the fact that you really get very hungry and you start eating crap.”

Chong and co-author Michele Baggio of the University of Connecticut found that legalizing recreational marijuana causes junk food sales to rise by about 6.3% in terms of sales and 5.1% by volume. The authors presented their findings in the December 2020 issue of Economics & Human Biology.

    THAT was genius!

Yeah, this study's "findings" were not exactly unexpected.

The irony of which is the fact that Girl scouts of America won't allow a strain to be named Girl Scout Cookies (now referred to as GSC)sued over it in fact.

*Although to be fair neither did Gorilla Glue (now referred to as GG).

Speaking of Girl Scout Cookies and marijuana strains - I was going to say my favorite GS cookies are the peanut butter sandwich cookies, the Do-Si-Dos, so I Googled it to make sure I got the spelling right and this was the first thing that came up.

Okay, that last Internet search got me reading about pot and what it costs now and - not surprisingly - it's a heck of a lot pricier than it was back in the day. ("The day" in my case being the early '70s.) Apparently the current street price, as one would expect, varies a bit from place to place, but generally speaking it's (at least according to a couple of different sites) roughly $9-$15 a gram. (Dispensary prices may be a little higher, no pun intended.) I'm assuming that's for the standard, run-of-the-mill stuff, not the genetically engineered super-pot. In Pensacola, Florida in 1973 a clean (few stems and seeds) four- or even five-finger lid - in other words a full ounce or even a little more - was $15. In San Diego it was $10. So at least a 28-fold increase in price.

Now you are looking at $300-400 an oz and $500-600 for the "super duper" aka "super stupor"
