The Maned Wolf is a very unusual member of the dog family.

Not a true wolf at all, it is the sole remaining remnant of the prehistoric carnivores from South American.

Truly a unique and rare animal with a skunk like defense scent, a unique gate, and an amazing vocalization called a roar -bark.

Since this video was created the numbers have improved, but accurate numbers are hard determine because the maned wolf is so shy and secretive.
Habitat loss is an ongoing issue and the near threatened status could quickly change without ongoing conservation..
Wow, freakin' awesome. Thanks so much for posting.

I live not far from a conservation area where there are plenty of coyotes. Periodically they are seen in the neighborhood very early in the morning walking down the street in no great hurry. Not good for those who leave their cats out all night.
