Some countries make money and others didnt. Brazil lost money for all they spent on the Olympics.

According to the NY Times.....host countries experience a significant increase in trade.

The US has a better record on Human Rights then many major countries. Especially China and Russia.

    I'm aware of that.

But according to this new "human rights" standard of hosting the Olympics, the US should also be disqualified along with China.

Not sure when "human rights" became the Olympic standard anyway. Seems like a new thing to me.

I can compare them. Absolutely I can. Just ask the people of Iraq and Libya, for starters. Or the millions of Americans who've been imprisoned for nonviolent drug offenses.

The US government has no problem supporting the regime in Saudi Arabia, which has been committing mass murder against the population in Yemen, to say nothing of the brutal domestic oppression within their own borders.

    Perhaps.

But that's nothing to brag about. And the job of the US isn't to make the world clean and morally pure. The US wasn't created to go on global crusades. That is a progressive view of foreign policy.

Yeah and we supported Russia in WWII. We also supported Chi-na at one time. Now its a different time.

Its a fact that we have better record than on Human Rights than many major countries. So yeah we can brag a little. While I agree the US wasnt created to go on global crusades. Doesnt mean it wouldnt happen.

What reason or reasons can you come up with for not supporting the Olympics in Chi-na?
