Actually, I seem to be alone on the stance that we should worry about our debt and both higher taxes and less spending is needed in order to address that problem. See, I actually care about the future of this country, not just my pockets.

If you care about the future of the country, then you should try to minimize the amount of money that goes to the government, where it gets wasted, plundered, and misused by crooked politicians.

Unfortunately no one seems to actually want to do that... The last time when someone tried was Obama, when he agreed on that deal with Boehner but Boehner backed out because his base threw a fit for coming to a compromise with Obama.

Yellen Favors Higher Company Tax, Signals Capital Gains Worth a Look (yahoo.com)

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said President Joe Biden favors boosting taxes on companies, and signaled openness to considering raising rates on capital gains, while steering clear of a wealth levy.

“A wealth tax has been discussed but is not something President Biden” favors, Yellen said at a virtual conference on Monday hosted by the New York Times. She said such a tax would have significant implementation problems.

She is probably referring to the Constitutional issue of targeting the wealthy for a special tax.

The administration is looking to boost the corporate tax to 28%, Yellen said. The Treasury chief said last week that revenue measures would be needed to help pay for Biden’s planned longer-term economic reconstruction program to help address concerns about debt sustainability.

Much of the economic growth under Trump was due to lowering the corporate tax rate to 21%. These fools want to raise it. More capital will leave the US.

Yellen also said that a hike in the capital-gains tax might be something “worth considering.” Asked about a financial-transactions tax, she said, “One would have to examine closely what effect it would have” on ordinary investors.

Raising taxes on capital gains hurts ordinary investors. Watch for them to try to change laws with regards to tax free investments.

Eh, don't mind if they raise taxes as long as they also cut spending and use the surplus to pay off the damn debts this country accumulated.
