We have hurricanes here. We lose power. Most people have generators. Others just wait days for the power to go back on.
Preparation is the responsibility of the people that live in these zones, just like it is in ours. Blaming others for the result of natural occurrences is claiming victim-hood. 30 million / 80 years avg life = 375,000 10 year olds of which about 10% did not have power at some time.
Why was this child the one out of 37,500 ten year olds without power to die?
Look to mom and dad.
2 Refrigerators. Two extra doors. Outside reclining patio furniture. Big smoker and a grill.. they are living the high life.
Plenty of woods behind them. I would have imagine that smoker would have been going constantly with a lean to next to it for keeping a young boy warm and dry and possibly covering the front door to draw in some of the heat.
This kind of cold in Tx is not typical. That's a rather cold comment. What you can see in the pic, these people could not afford to spend money on generators, etc. GEEZ! Show some compassion! I'm surprised at you carolina. And for all anybody knows, he had some kind of underlying health condition nobody knew anything about. I remember about 30 years ago, getting a call that one of my cousins had died, and when she said his name, my response was, no, you mean his brother don't you? Because his brother was the one who had always been involved in drugs and had all kinds of health issues as a result. Nope, it was his brother who was in college, made great grades, very sports active. They sent off tissue samples to the Mayo Clinic. Took 6 months to get the results. Turned out he had some heart problems that had never come to light or been diagnosed in all his physicals.
I find it odd how fast so many of you are condemning the parents, when there are still so many unanswered questions. Kinda' what the democrats are always doing.....
By the looks of the pickup truck, the Dad probably works construction and does scrap collecting on the side. It looks to me like he collects doors, appliances etc being thrown out from jobsites (perhaps renos) and then sells them. I think it's safe to say these people are very poor. That 40-year-old mobile home that they live in is in pretty bad shape.
I don't see how that smoker could have been used to heat the home without ending up with smoke infiltration.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

If I were that poor, in those weather conditions, no child of mine would be left alone to freeze to death. Such irresponsibility is inexcusable.
