Have you ever paid attention to the similarities? They borrowed from each other. They were members of this literary group...informal...at one of their favorite pubs. Eagle and the Child?? They shared ideas etc. If you've read both and in particular if you saw the films of both...you could probably pick out those 'borrowings'. or rather...say...collaborations?

Having read both one cannot escape the religious intentions of C. S. Lewis and his Christian analogies. Tolkien much less obvious and the tale told in the story of the ring was much inspired by his negative experiences in WWI. But it was also about clearly defined Good and Evil so how can you avoid religion in that presentation? Also clear reference to an afterlife in sailing off to the West leaving the old world behind.

The more interesting story is that Tolkien had no intention to write the LOR at all. He wanted to keep writing his elf mythologies, but his publisher of "The Hobbit" wanted more stories about Hobbits. And the result was his most popular work of over 1000 pages involving Hobbits and so many other Middle Earth peoples woven together.

They are very imaginative children's stories.

I was not at all pleased when Disney stopped making films and we all know the garbage they put out now!

You are right about his experience in WW1. I've read that as well.

Lord of the Rings is replete with biblical themes but I also agree that they aren't obvious.
