No CPAC invitation for Mitch McConnell. .....

‘Next year would be a better year.’

Mitch McConnell, the Senate’s Republican leader, has not been invited to this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, two sources familiar with the event’s organizing tell McClatchy.

The annual conference, set to kick off this Thursday in Orlando and run through Sunday, will feature speeches by former President Donald Trump, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and more than a half a dozen senators.

“Leader McConnell did a great job confirming judges, and we know he will be a strong supporter of restoring appropriate election laws. Next year would be a better year for him to address the improvements to election laws once the states have time to act,” said Dan Schneider, executive director of the American Conservative Union, which puts on the event.

If McConnell was to show up on the CPAC stage, he would risk being met by a hostile audience, given the group’s loyalty to Trump.

“There’s always tension between the grassroots and the establishment. That’s part of the history of this thing,” said the CPAC source, adding that the change of location from the D.C. Beltway to Florida will make the crowd more inherently conservative and pro-Trump. “You’re not going to have the swampy set.”

Former Vice President Mike Pence also declined an invitation to speak as he plans to step away from the public stage for the next several months.

The potential 2024 aspirant line-up is already long, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Govs. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Kristi Noem of South Dakota and Sens. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Ted Cruz of Texas, Josh Hawley of Missouri and Rick Scott of Florida.

A new poll from The Economist/YouGov this week showed how much power Trump still wields over his party. Forty-eight percent of Republicans said they wouldn’t vote for a candidate who has been critical of Trump and 61% said they’d be more likely to vote for a candidate with Trump’s endorsement......snip~

Remember how the leftness and the Lame Stream Media kept telling all how its over for Trump. That Trump wont have the support to lead the Party. All that $#@! talking the left was doing. Looks like Trump is still the man. So much so, that CPAC didnt invite any Repubs that spoke out against Trump. Or voted to Impeach him. Not even McConnell.

Florida Gov. DeSantis opens CPAC slamming 'failed Republican establishment of yesteryear'.....

DeSantis calls Florida an "Oasis of Freedom at CPAC.

Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis kicked off CPAC on Friday slamming the "failed Republican establishment of yesteryear."

"Now, Florida's leading on the issues that matter to conservatives, we don't spout hollow rhetoric, we take decisive action," DeSantis said on the opening day of the annual gathering of conservatives. "And what's true in Florida it's true for conservatives across the nation. We cannot. We will not go back to the days of the failed Republican establishment of yesteryear."

DeSantis is a rising star inside GOP ranks. He was elected as governor in 2019 and has overseen the state's response to the COVID pandemic, having balanced keeping virus numbers down while avoiding a shutdown of schools and businesses......snip~

There is no going back to business as usual. The political landscape has changed. I was concerned the GOP establishment would resist reality with all their might but they appear to be cracking.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

The message is certainly being provided. I actually expect some defections by non-conservatives like Collins and Murkowski.

The GOP can either take a small hit and recover or take a huge hit in their voter base.

    Good riddance.

    Succinct assessment.

Even Pence isnt showing up for CPAC. No Romney either. If Trump doesnt run.....he will certainly be playing kingmaker. In that way, Its looking like DeSantis, Cotton, and Pompeo will be leading the way. If Trump runs they wont run.

Nikki Haley wont stand a chance either way.

Haley was very well liked in SC. Being one of the last to take down the Confederate flag does not define her in the end. She refused and stood firm when the legislature tried to spend more. She is Tea Party fiscally and was named a Tea Party darling. She left the state at 4.4% unemployment (below the average) and brought in a large number of companies. SC was a high unemployment state prior to her governorship. She flat lined the debt.

She has an unconfirmed claim of an affair by a political operative that was heavily used against her with no proof.

She left the UN with a 63% national approval rating. She is minority and female.

I did not say I was ready to vote for her but she is SC and too many are throwing crap at her for being one of the last to pull down the confederate flag.
