This is not as surprising as you might think.
A lot of musical groups got taken for a ride in the 60's and 70's not caring about economics or property like who owned their music. By the 80's they started to wake up and hire their own lawyers and financial managers.
About a year ago I was watching a program that featured the Ozbourne's. And Sharon starts talking about how much she liked their old home in Birmingham, and Ozzy says on camera "You want to move back there and pay those Taxes!"

Zappa was a very cool dude. His politics mirrored my own. What's funny is the right always saw him as demented and drug using. He never drank or did drugs. The back of his Sheik Your Booty (1978) album shows a mixing board with a pack of Winstons: one burning and a cup of black coffee.
He was a brilliant man and he had a great handle on society's problems that came out in his music. There are lost of YouTube interviews and the ones on labeling albums for sale are quite interesting: the far right never give him a chance: they treat like a commie leftie.
Addendum: watch the video interview and listen to what he says about the Republican party and the Communist party.

Frank was an odd duck but a brilliant one. As far as his politics go he was more than anything else very distrustful of government in general regardless of the party in charge.
RIP Uncle Bosey
A great first officer but an even better second course.
