U.S. soccer repeals requirement players stand for national anthem.....

The U.S. Soccer Federation's National Council has voted to repeal its requirement that players to stand for the national anthem, reviving an issue that started when star player Megan Rapinoe knelt during a 2016 match.

The vote Saturday received received more than 71% of the weighted vote of the national council, according to ESPN, and was the final step after the USSF board of directors last June first recommended repealing the requirement.

Soccer officials said the decision was not designed to dishonor the military, the flag or police but to allow free expression by players.....snip~

If they do not want to represent their country then they should not join the team.

That's about the sum of it. They are going to make themselves redundant and cancel themselves eventually.

I do not think anyone should be forced to stand for the anthem. It's what makes America so great. The thing is though most of us do and we do so because of what this country has afforded us. Those footballers are living pretty good lives in the country they are purposefully insulting. Aside from that soccer in the US has had a major struggle to become popular for decades. How exactly will this sort of behavior help the matter?

Not standing shows lack of support. Taking a knee is "chucking the bird" at the USA.

You should not be playing for the national team if you do not stand with your country. There are plenty of professional leagues that they can spend their time with.
