Sadly to date, Conservatives have not organized to exert economic leverage.

Once you hire them and then fire them because they are potential trouble makers you are setting yourself up for a major lawsuit. Its better to never have to deal with them in the first place. However, how you can determine their political beliefs beforehand would be very problematic. It would be far better to befriend a sympathetic undertaker who could assist you in really cancelling the offending twit.

Not everyone who gets fired has grounds for a law suit.

Besides. I didn’t say a business should have the freedom to fire a “potential trouble maker.” They should have the freedom to fire an actual trouble maker. Someone who has demonstrated that they don’t work well with others.

I’d say that they also should have the freedom to not hire someone who they believe is a “ potential” trouble maker.

When has not having grounds ever stopped lawsuits from going forward? Who would have thought not baking a cake would be grounds for a multi million dollar lawsuit.

People get fired from privately owned businesses every day and have no grounds for a law suit.

Your cake analogy has absolutely nothing to do with this subject. That was a completely different issue. Also, that law suit was brought by the state and it failed.

The libertarian side of my politics says an employer--private employer, public another story--should be able to hire and fire you for any damn reason it wants--disagreement with your politics or your sexual preferences or the way you comb your hair.

Sometimes I wonder if that's too much liberty, a form of liberty with no responsibility to society.

I just met a couple who own a small business. They claim that their business is very successful. They told me that they only hire ex-cons who have a family.

I guess I'm thinking where, say, big tech and big media become so political as to cancel opposing political opinions. It's not a 1st amendment violation but would not be good for the political "life" of a society.
