NY Legislators Strike Deal To Strip Cuomo Of Emergency Powers

Leaders from both parties in the New York State Legislature reached an agreement on Tuesday to rescind Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 emergency powers.

Legislators from both the New York assembly and state senate agreed to limit Cuomo’s authority to issue COVID-19 related executive orders and restore the ability of local municipalities and county governments to issue public health orders, according to NBC 4 New York.

“We certainly see the need for a quick response but also want to move toward a system of increased oversight, and review,” state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said in a statement to NBC. “The public deserves to have checks and balances. Our proposal would create a system with increased input while at the same time ensuring New Yorkers continue to be protected,” Stewart-Cousins said.


Cuomo faces multiple allegations of sexual misconduct as well as growing concern over his administration’s alleged attempt to coverup of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.

Under the deal, local municipalities would have more authority to set their own indoor dining rules and lockdown orders without Cuomo’s consent. The deal also mandates that Cuomo must “provide online reporting on all executive orders, providing transparency for all,” according to a series of tweets from Democratic Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner.
Woerner said in a tweet that she anticipated a full vote to revoke Cuomo’s emergency powers to take place as early as Friday.

Governor Andrew Cuomo lawyered up this week as the Department of Justice continues its investigation into mass numbers of nursing home deaths in New York during the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.



"New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D) administration hired a defense attorney to represent the governor and his closest aides in an investigation probing COVID-19 nursing home deaths during the pandemic," The Hill reported earlier this week. "Defense attorney Elkan Abramowitz, a former federal prosecutor, confirmed to The Hill on Monday that he was representing the “Executive Chamber” as the state endures three probes into how it handled reporting coronavirus deaths in nursing homes."


As journalists and other interested parties start following the money, Cuomo's corruption is being further exposed.

Cuomo advisers told state health officials to alter public report on nursing home COVID-19 deaths: Report.....

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's advisers allegedly convinced state health officials to alter a July 2020 report on nursing home resident fatalities.


The July 2020 report focused only on residents who died inside long-term care facilities, excluding those who died in a hospital after becoming sick in a nursing home, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people with knowledge on the matter.


Factoring the data this way showed 6,432 nursing home residents had died, as the initial version of the report noted nearly 10,000 elderly assisted living residents had died by July 2020, one person with information on the report said.


The changes to the initial report reveal the state maintained a fuller data set on out-of-facility nursing home deaths as early as the summer of 2020.



More than 15,000 residents of nursing homes and other long-term care locations were confirmed or presumed to have died from COVID-19 since March 2020, factoring those who died in assisted living facilities and those who later died in hospitals, state officials have since reported.


The figure amounts to be 50% higher than earlier official death tolls.....snip~
