UAW Warns Workers Ford Plans to Move Project Worth $900 Million From Ohio to Mexico

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union said that Ford Motor Co.’s plan to build a new vehicle in Mexico instead of Ohio might be a violation of the auto manufacturer’s contractual commitments.

“We 100 percent reject the company’s decision to put corporate greed and more potential profits over American jobs and the future of our members. We expect the company to honor its contractual commitments to this membership and when it fails to do so we will take action,” UAW Vice President Gerald Kariem said. “We are intensely exploring our options at this time,” he added.

In the letter, Kariem said Ford in 2019 committed $900 million for a plant in Avon Lake, Ohio (OHAP), and would include a next-generation Ford model to be added to the production lines in 2023. That would have secured “employment well into the foreseeable future” for auto workers but he blasted Ford for not “honor[ing] its promise.”

“Ford management expects us to just hang our heads and accept the decision,” Kariem wrote in a letter, which was dated March 12. “But let me be clear, we are making a different choice.”

Ford plant manager Jason Moore issued a letter to Avon Lake workers after UAW’s letter and said the conditions surrounding the expansion at the Ohio plant had changed. The 2019 agreement included a “reference to a $900 million investment and a new product for OHAP,” the letter stated. Moore said that the firm is investing in the plant and will increase Super Duty truck production there.

Trump stopped this kind of stuff. I will be surprised if the Absent Minded Professor will stop it.
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

Gas is about up a dollar a gallon with no sign of stopping.

The Resident is telling people that they will not be able to buy a gas car in 10 years. That means if they buy a new vehicle they will not be able to sell it 5 to 10 years down the line. We all know that Biden is full of crap but that is the message he is selling.
What company would not change its strategy for gasoline powered vehicles and move the product manufacturing to a country where they can actually sell the vehicle?

    Blame Ford? No.
Blame the Resident? Yes 100% He is an idiot that is destroying industries with no substitutes in place. Just like the pipeline jobs. No place for the workers and no replacement for the fuel services that he shut down. A totally senile idiot.

You don't get it. These are gas vehicles. The US will not have a significant market for them because of Biden's policies of fossil fuels.

The court's are not going to force Ford to build a plant for a product that the US consumer has not need to buy. They will be enjoying their gas trucks in Mexico.

The UAW could have a talk with The Resident about fossil fuels and all the money they gave him.

Plus, this is no big deal. These UAW workers can learn how to code or install solar panels. ROFL

You don’t get it. Th OP source left out vital information about the UAW’s grievance. What kind of car doesn’t matter against the violation of the contract. That could turn into a strike issue.

I get it. What are they going to win. Get Ford to build the plant and have no Super Body Trucks to build there aka gas guzzlers? Then FORD could claim big losses and lay off more union workers after never hiring any to build the trucks they didn't need.

No one can force this. They could strike and what would be the resolution? Build a ghost plant?

You must have been a government employee.
