NYC Ends Qualified Immunity for Cops in Massive Police Reform Package

The New York City Council acted Thursday to make it easier to sue the city’s police officers.

The legislation limits what’s known as qualified immunity, which protected police officers from lawsuits claiming they violated the rights of those they arrested or otherwise confronted.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said he supports the bill.

“What we are doing is saying the police can’t walk into the courtroom and say, ‘The plaintiff has no right to bring me here because I am immune,’” said Democratic Brooklyn Councilman Stephen Levin, who sponsored the bill, according to The New York Times. “This is about giving people a right to protect the most fundamental rights in our democracy.”

The bill, which passed 37-11, creates protection for citizens against unreasonable searches and the use of excessive force. The law means that anyone wanting to sue a police officer can now do so under the local law, rather than under a federal or state law.

The majority of those cops come from the conservative outskirts of NYC because the human product the NY City school system and integrity of its inhabitants are questionable . They just stopped educated ,high quality citizens from applying for city jobs . You'd have to be a fool to take a on employment in there now with the liberals as judge and jury .
Vermin feeling comfortable among vermin .

Imagine being a cop that can be sued by every criminal that you arrest. He is sitting in jail with nothing else to do. Frivolous law suits are in no way blocked for the average person.

Ever cop in NYC should go on strike until immunity is restored.

I used to get in there to go to Yankee Stadium and Madison Sq Garden Ranger hockey (pre Chinese virus)but there is no way I'll let my family go in anymore . I felt safer in there at 2am than in my own little suburban town until this Marxist idiot DiBlasio destroyed what was a great place to visit .
The animals now have the keys to the zoo cages.
