Elderly man pulls gun on Antifa after attack & vandalize his truck. He gets arrested

In Salem, Oregon an elderly man pulled a gun on a number of Antifa protesters who vandalized his truck, breaking out windows and spraying paint on his windshield. But police arrested him while seemingly ignoring the antagonists.

The truck was part of a Trump-supporting caravan that was driving past the capitol building in Salem on Sunday.

Antifa members broke out the truck’s taillights, broke at least one window, and sprayed paint across the windshield. The driver proceeded to get out of the vehicle. He was open-carrying and when he saw what they had done and realized they were threatening him with pepper spray and batons, he pulled his gun and told them to get away from him.

The attackers backed off fast with one hiding behind a tree. They spewed expletives at the man, repeatedly threatening him. When he saw the police and they ordered him to drop his weapon, the man tossed his gun into the bed of his pickup, put up his hands, and got down on the ground to show he wasn’t a threat to the officers.

Happens all the time. The police were watching and one truck a large limb that almost killed a female passenger went through the windshield. The police don't care unless they defend themselves. The police there are a joke.

So, he wasn't arrested, he was just detained and released?

You have to be on the guy's side, but letting the police see you with a gun in your hand is ALWAYS a bad idea. If they hadn't been distracted by having to deal with him because of that, one would think they might have been able to round up some of the people who vandalized his truck.

Does that make this better? It's ok to you that the police didn't arrest any that attacked this man. While they were yelling at the police to kill him. They didn't arrest any Antifa, even the one that put a limb into the windshield. But as long as they don't arrested the ones being attacked, everything is fine.

They never do. They watched many being attacked and didn't intervene at all and were not going to.

I have to agree with this but I think another phenomena may be in play as well. I don't know if there's a name for it -- perhaps @Dr. Who would know...

When someone in a position of authority is afraid troublemakers will challenge that authority, they may choose to make an example of someone who commits a much lesser infraction. I witnessed this very thing when I worked in the school system. Teachers, especially females, would sometimes pretend they didn't see the real troublemakers and then come down overly-hard on kids who did virtually nothing wrong in comparison. It was almost as though the teachers were trying to send a message to the troublemakers without having to confront them directly. I don't know if it was successful or not, but I think it created a lot of resentment.

It's got to be. At least to some extent.

But, it's also kind of like trying to punish someone by proxy.

    It's odd.
