An installation by sculptor Péter Szalay, dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement, was pulled down on Friday morning in Hungary just a day after it was put on display. Standing at just a metre high, the 3D-printed work, which depicts New York's Statue of Liberty in rainbow colours, has already sparked controversy in the country among the government of Viktor Orbán. Erected on Thursday in the capital Budapest, Lady Liberty is portrayed bending the knee, stretching her right fist in the air and holding a plaque that reads: "Black Lives Matter".

A one-metre-tall rainbow-coloured Black Lives Matter statue has been erected in Ferenc Square in Budapest’s 9th District. A tender was announced last August to have independent public works on the city streets again. A professional jury selected six works from the submitted entries, out of which four were exhibited today.

Eastern Europe is having none of the West's decadence and death wish.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Hungary does not have a black population. It makes you wonder what the intent of the artist was and who allowed him to put it there.

To the topic, I wonder what this means in Hungary, the Hungary of Viktor Orbán, which is, as I understand it, national populist if not a rejection of liberalism in general. Why would they tear it down? A rejection of BLM or American liberalism? --By liberalism I mean a sort of general, generic Enlighted liberalism at least once broadly shared across the political spectrum in the US--not, iow, progressivism.

Just for starters the damn thing is ugly and clearly the intention was to be offensive to most Americans.
