Can you hard wire (network cable) your wife's pc into the cable company's router?
The reason I ask is that your personal router is using the company router as a gateway to the internet.
If your IT guy disabled the personal router, it, and your wife's pc no longer have a pathway to the internet.
Also if they are using the same IP addressing they could be interfering with each other.

Did you get this problem figured out?
There's a bunch of things that potentially could be the problem
    Or a combination of things...

For the primary router I would suggest first making sure that your cable supplier lists it as compatible. I have Spectrum and some routers will not work with their service.

Regarding the 2 routers - Connecting two home routers over wireless is also possible, but in most configurations, the second router can only function as a wireless access point instead of a router. The second router must be set up in client mode to utilize its full routing functionality, a mode that many home routers don't support.

I'm sure that I did not make it any easier but I would look at the list of acceptable routers for your service provider first and check out their ratings. A second one would then have to be capable of being setup as a client. We did this at our office to get to the conference room but it has been a few years now and details now escape me.

Which router is your wife's pc plugged into?
My wife's laptop is wireless only. I will ask her which router she is linked to.

I ended up buying the Eero mesh router system, the mother of all routers. Had trouble b/c of the other router, got Eero on the phone and they did this and that and this - and all is good now. Mrs. U and P2 are happy.
