A renowned pulmonary critical care doctor testified Thursday morning that George Floyd died from a "low level of oxygen" when former police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the street and restricted his ability to breathe.

"This caused damage to his brain that we see, and it also caused a PEA arrhythmia that caused his heart to stop," Dr. Martin Tobin of Chicago testified, referring to pulseless electrical activity, a type of cardiac arrest.
"The cause of the low level of oxygen was shallow breathing," he added. "Small breaths. Small tidal volumes. Shallow breaths that weren't able to carry the air through his lungs down to the essential areas of the lungs that get oxygen into the blood and get rid of the carbon dioxide."
He identified four main reasons why Floyd died: the handcuffs and the street acting as a "vise;" Chauvin's left knee on his neck; Floyd's prone position; and Chauvin's right knee on Floyd's back, arm and side. Combined, these limited Floyd's ability to expand his lungs and narrowed his hypopharynx, a part of the throat that air passes through.Floyd's preexisting health conditions and drug use were not relevant to his death, Tobin said.
"A healthy person subjected to what Mr. Floyd was subjected to would have died," he said.

This will be easily disproven with an in court demonstration.

The toxicologist who testified today showed a chart of people with fentanyl in their blood who died compared to people arrested with fentanyl in their blood who did not die. The level of fentanyl in George Floyd's blood was 11 nanograms, in the range with the dead people. This makes me challenge Dr Tobin's espoused theory of why George died. In other words, I have doubt about Mr Tobin's testimony.

But there was another fact that came out as part of this testimony and I will no longer support the notion Mr Chauvin acted within reason.

This is no way retracts my earlier comments regarding Mr Floyd.

Testi - it wasn't just today. There were two other ME's who testified about Floyd dying of Asphyxiation.

the toxicologist's testimony rendered the pulmonologist's testimony/theory about cause of death in doubt. It's something else that came out today that I can't get past regarding Chauvin. I've not watched all this trial, so I don't have all the testimony, so I'm exiting having any opinion one way or another at this point.

Incorrect. He claimed it was a heart issue (look up the medical term he used). He said it was not asphyxiation- the prosecutor claimed it was.
